On July 1, 1916, a whole generation of young men lost their lives at the Battle of the Somme. 100 years later, Opera on the Avalon is remembering these young soldiers with an original, commissioned piece called Ours.
Promoting Ours and the commemorative Garden of Tears, the print, poster, and video components of the campaign use the real names of these brave men who went to war. The shape of the poppy represents Remembrance Day and the Forget-Me-Not for The Royal Newfoundland Regiment.
Voiced by the remarkable Gordon Pinsent, our accompanying radio campaign takes a devastating look back to make sure we all remember their great sacrifice.
